Spring RV Cleaning Checklist for Nebraska Owners
Written by Matthew Brunken · Omaha RV Cleaning Co.
Winter in Nebraska is hard on a stored RV: freeze-thaw cycles work at the sealant, dust settles into every vent, and the interior sits sealed with whatever humidity you closed it up with. A methodical spring wake-up prevents most early-season problems. Here's the order we recommend — it's the same order we work in.
For the full seasonal decision guide, see our Omaha RV cleaning guide before choosing between an exterior wash, interior reset, or combined service.
1. Roof and seals, before anything else
Get up there before the first rain. Check sealant around vents, AC units, and edges for cracking or lifting — a $50 sealant fix now versus interior water damage later. Wash the roof membrane with cleaner made for the material. (Full roof care guide here.)
2. Exterior wash
Road salt film from your last November trip has been sitting on the finish all winter. Wash it before the first hot sun bakes it on — hand wash, RV-safe soap, top to bottom. Black streaks that appeared over the winter need spot treatment, not scrubbing.
3. Awning and slide seals
Extend the awning and inspect for mildew and tears — mildew cleans off now with the right product; left alone it stains permanently. Wipe and treat slide-out seals so they don't dry-crack in the summer sun.
4. The interior reset
This is the part most owners underestimate. After months closed up:
- Air it out fully for a day
- Vacuum everything, including under cushions and inside the slide mechanism
- Clean the fridge before you power it (closed fridges are odor factories)
- Sanitize the mattress and upholstery — dry vapor steam kills the dust mites and bacteria that multiplied over the winter without soaking the foam
5. Tires and wheels
Check pressures and sidewall cracking, and scrub the brake dust and storage grime off the wheels. While you're down there, look for anything that nested over the winter.
Don't skip the mattress
If you do only one interior item, do the mattress steam sanitation. That first night of the season should start fresh — and for used-RV buyers it's non-negotiable. See our mattress service.
The full spring service — exterior wash, roof, and interior reset with steam sanitation — is exactly what our seasonal washing service delivers, at your driveway or storage lot anywhere in the Omaha metro.
